What is the science behind GM foods?
GM foods are made through a process known as Genetic Engineering. Genes of commercial interest from other plants are inserted into plants that need to be bigger or more attractive. They use a gene gun or injection to put the genes inside the plant.
What foods are affected by this technology?
The food that are affected by this technology are: sugar beets, potatoes, corn, tomatoes, squash, golden rice, soy beans, oils, strawberries, cherries, apples, guavas, kiwis, oranges, bananas and grapes.
What are the problems with this technology?
GM foods kill bees and butterflies, they create super bugs and super weeds, they harm biodiversity and create stronger pesticides.
What action has been taken to try and prevent the technology developing?
Some countries have banned GM Foods completely. People are being more aware of the cons because a lot of bees and animals are dying.
